Pressure Ulcer, known as Bedsores, according to the National Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel (NPUAP) official website is a “localized damage to the skin and/or underlying soft tissue usually over a bony prominence or related to a medical or other device”. It is common to most people, especially those whose activities involve less physical activities and too much pressure on hard surfaces. To prevent having pressure ulcers, here are some of the things you should do:
-
Change positions often
Pressure ulcer triggers if you put too much pressure on your skin. If you’re sitting down or for those who are bedridden, change positions every hour to avoid stress on the skin. Ask your caregivers to assist you if you have difficulty. -
Eat healthy
Eating healthy is one way for you to prevent pressure ulcer. Regulate the circulation of blood and strengthen the body. Eat vegetables and fruits more instead of eating too much pork and fatty foods. -
Exercise
Exercise also helps in keeping your body fit and healthy. Remember, your body needs exercise too if you want to regulate its function and increase its immunity. -
Prevent things that will cause pressure ulcer
If you don’t want to have pressure ulcers, avoid them. For people who are bedridden, ask your caregivers to elevate your bed for balance, use soft pillows and mattress, and level off the foot from the rest of your body. -
Keep skin healthy
Moisturize your skin always and never forget to wash your body everyday. Never use hard brushes when scrubbing your skin to avoid yourself from damaging your skin.
